Northern Stars Aeroteam

The Northern Stars Aeroteam is made up of veteran RCAF pilots, Todd Farrell, Mario Hame, and Greg Hume-Powell. Pulling from their vast experience as pilots, they put on a tightly choreographed and high-energy performance that shows off the breathtaking capabilities of the Pitts Special.

Greg Hume-Powell – Interim Team Lead / Left Wing

Greg joined the team in 2021. Before that he served in the RCAF, flying the Sea-King helicopter and CT-156 Harvard. He also served on the Canadian Forces Snowbirds as the Outer Right Wing for the 2016 season, moving to the Opposing Solo and Lead Solo positions for the 2017 and 2018 seasons.

He is currently filling in as Team Lead, Brent Handy for the 2024 and 2025 air show season.

Todd Farrell – Right Wing

Todd’s flying career began with gliders and he has since flown in 40 other aircraft types. He built his aerobatic flying foundation while in the RCAF. He served as an instructor pilot on the CT-155 Hawk and flew humanitarian support and combat missions around the globe as a pilot of the C-17 Globemaster. Todd joined the airshow circuit in 2017, when the team formed and has been flying in it ever since!

Mario Hame – Left Wing

Similar to Todd, Mario’s introduction to aviation was also in gliders. He went on to earn his RCAF pilot wings. He served as a standard pilot and maintenance test pilot, and on Snowbirds for two air show seasons. He left the RCAF and cofounded the Northern Lights Aerobatic Team. After six seasons, he took a 10-year hiatus from the airshow industry, he returned and flew with Yak Attack Airshows until 2021. He joined the Northern Stars Aeroteam in 2024.
